CREATING YOUR DREAM KITCHEN

This "step by step" synopsis of the design and installation process is meant to help you understand what to expect for every part of the journey. Each client has their own unique needs, so some steps may vary.

Below may seem very lengthy but at Harbourside Kitchens, we aim to familiarize our clients as much as possible so they feel comfortable with the entire process and know what to expect at Harbourside Kitchens.

Our services include complete project management. If the client decides they would like more oversight from Harbourside Kitchens to include renovation projects in the rest of the house, our designers are capable to offer more comprehensive support services. This enables our designers to execute the design envisioned because in our experience, if an eye is not kept on the details during construction then we are not satisfied to give you the kitchen or bathroom of your dreams.

1. Your First Visit with Us

Upon the first visit with our designers, we will give an overview of the product lines we handle. You will also be asked questions about your design needs, and take home some information on the cabinet lines you like the most.

2. Measuring & Consultation

Harbourside Kitchens can provide you with a brochure to guide you at home on the nature of your physical space. If you are not sure or would like some guidance or some visualization, a designer can visit your home and personally see your home for cues on architecture, personal style, and ergonomy.

3. Wish List

Make your "Wish List" of styles you like, appliances or accessories you want, and some ideas of the role of your kitchen or bathroom in your life. Our designers have extensive resources and experience to whip up ideas for your dream kitchen or bathroom and make sure our clients get everything they want.

4. Appliances

The appliance selection is critical to the design because the dimensions must be accounted for early on. For example, do you want a single or double oven? Cooktop or range? Gas or electric induction cooktop? Side by side refrigerator or bottom freezer? If you're not familiar with these terms, don't be afraid to ask about what they are and their advantages for your efficiency in the kitchen.

5. Style & Finishing

In order to complete an estimate, some of the items that must be chosen are door styles, wood type, finishes and stains. At Harbourside Kitchens, you can narrow down your choices with the assistance of one of our designers and review our vast array of samples and displays.

6. Design & Estimate

At this point, our designer has enough information to begin a customized design for our clients' wants and needs, and establish a price range. If our client has a budget in mind, disclosing this at the beginning will be beneficial for our designers better accommodate the client's needs. Having a budget will in no way effect the quality of your design.

There will be a final consultation about the final design of the client's kitchen or bath. It will be comprehensive and include the cost of cabinetry, countertops, tiles, appliances, plumbing fixtures.

When the basic design is set, we require a retainer fee before going any further. Our retainer fee is approximately 10% of the total cost of cabinetry. This fee will enable our designers to move into the next stage to generate architectural drawings of the spaces, placing deposits with vendors, and etc. This retainer fee is applied to the total cost of our client's custom kitchen.

7. Refining your Kitchen and Bath Design

Your designer will come to your house and take exact measurements of the space. Based on these measurements, the designer will finalize the design layout and meet with the Contractor, Electrician, and Plumber to coordinate all the necessary construction information in order to delivery your kitchen/bath correctly and on time.

If you don't have someone in mind to perform the work, Harbourside Kitchens has recommendations on file of people we've worked well with in the past and can perform high-quality work for your house to look it's best.

When the plans are finalized, the cabinetry will be ready to order. At this time, a deposit equal to 50% of the cabinetry cost will be required to order. Harbourside Kitchens will also require a signed contract with the client's acceptance of the design plans.

8. Construction

Harbourside Kitchens offers complete project management of your renovation to ensure that the final product is entirely to the client's satisfaction. Our designers can manage plumbers, electricians, painters, carpenters, and general workman.

Harbourside Kitchens also enjoys working with any general contractor you have in mind. Our designers can provide a complete set of drawings to the contractor, and regularly visit the home to make sure every detail is installed correctly according to the designer's specifications.

Within four weeks of ordering your cabinets, we will have a delivery date from the manufacturer. The cabinetry balance is due one week before delivery of your cabinetry.

A few weeks before the cabinetry delivery, the appliances and countertops will be ordered by the designer and scheduled to arrive at the right time.

Harbourside Kitchen designers like to begin installing the cabinetry within a couple days after the delivery and start getting things done after that.

The construction part varies based on the nature of the work. The contractor is expected to provide a timeline of the work so the client knows if there is any part of project where they can't have access to the space and be able to plan around it.

After installation, Harbourside Kitchens will do a “punch list" visit to assure everything has been delivered and installed properly. Any adjustments to the kitchen can be done at this time.

9. Enjoy your new custom kitchen!
